AB 1775 & Cannabis Cafés:
What That Means For 818 Brands
Studio City and Palm Springs
In January 2025, California passed AB 1775, a game-changing law that allows licensed cannabis retailers and microbusinesses to operate cannabis cafés—spaces where customers can legally enjoy on-site cannabis consumption, freshly prepared food and beverages, and live entertainment. But there’s a catch: cities must opt in before any cannabis café can open its doors.
Are Cannabis Cafés Coming to Studio City or Palm Springs?
Not just yet.
While AB 1775 is now state law, local governments must approve the implementation—and as of now, neither Los Angeles (Studio City) nor Palm Springs has adopted the specific ordinances required to allow cannabis cafés to operate.
That means at both of our 818 Brands dispensary locations, we’re still waiting for local approval before bringing you the cannabis café experience you deserve.
Why This Matters to Our 818 Brands Community
At 818 Brands, we’re not just another dispensary—we’re building culture around cannabis. With our locations in Studio City and Palm Springs, we’re deeply rooted in two of California’s most iconic communities. And the passage of AB 1775 opens up exciting possibilities for the future.
Here’s what this law could mean for our customers—once local governments give the green light:
- On-site consumption lounges where you can relax and enjoy your favorite cannabis products in a social, safe setting
- Curated menus featuring fresh, non-cannabis food and beverages
- Live music, art shows, and events that celebrate local creativity
- A more immersive, hospitality-driven cannabis experience
Until then, our priority remains the same: providing the highest quality cannabis, expert guidance, and a welcoming environment at both our Studio City and Palm Springs dispensaries.
What’s Next?
We’re staying in close contact with city officials and the Department of Cannabis Regulation to monitor any local developments around AB 1775. And you can bet that when either city gives the go-ahead for cannabis cafés, 818 Brands will be ready to lead the way.
